With competitors like H&M, The Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle, Urban Outfitters has to stand out. What these brands all have in common besides being retailers is
having a good online/ mobile presence.
U.O.'s main competitor, H&M, has more of a social followers, kicking U.O. on the curb when it comes to likes on Facebook and a Twitter following. It's important to note, however, that H&M has been an established brand longer and originated in Sweden, giving it more leverage globally.
The Gap also exceeds the amount of Facebook fans and followers on Twitter compared to U.O. The Gap has also been an established brand for a longer period of time but has suffered numerous brand identity crises and its popularity has fallen over the years due to its inconsistencies.
Abercrombie & Fitch beats U.O. on Facebook but not Twitter. Abercrombie & Fitch has the stereotype as a "snobby" brand due to its recent debacle with the CEO. This brand is also stereotyped as a clothing retailer for young teenagers and has not been able to change its image from this.
American Eagle has an impressive amount of fans on Facebook, exceeding the amount that U.O. has. Though, American Eagle is struggling with their followers on Twitter compared to U.O.
